Chris Reid

I have been involved in coaching rugby for 25 years on a journey that has taken me from 3rd fifteen club coach to Scotland Women and from primary school sessions to coaching the regional performance pathway in both the male and female game, and probably all points in between.

In my working life I spent 30 years as a police officer but couldn’t escape the world of training. In 1996 I followed one of my passions and started working and training police dogs. This reinforced my belief that you need to firstly create a connection, then ensure you make training fun and enjoyable for both for the dog and the handler, because if you don't, neither will engage or improve……. Sound familiar?

After doing my police service and leaving with no plan, I was offered work coaching in local Renfrewshire schools. This led me to become a rugby development officer and to taking up various roles within Scottish Rugby.

It also lit the fire that ignited my passion for coach development.

I have now delivered, written and developed courses and workshops across different sports and the country. I have gained a number of qualifications that include sports coaching level 3 award (UKCC), world rugby master trainer (coaching and refereeing), Scottish rugby trainer and educator, and a SVQ assessor and internal verifier.

I am passionate about developing coaches to improve and enhance the experience for young people in sport. I believe if we develop our coaching in order to create stronger connections with our players and build a relaxed and fun learning environment, wherever that might be, it will inspire people to be creative and enjoy their journey in sport.

Out with my rugby , I still manage to find time to enjoy my time on the golf course, if not the actual golf, walking my dogs and hill walking.
